Symposium Art-Science-Technology and Society to Empower

Delavski dom Trbovlje, 16th of September 2017

At the beginning of the 21st century there is an important conflict between the highly advanced technological progress on the one hand and the lack of humanity and empathy on the other hand. All this is bringing up the issue of the survival of humanity as we know it today. Technology has advanced so much that it is now assuming the place of the cognitive principle of humanity as we as we used to know.
The aim of the Speculum Artium 2017 symposium “Art-Science-Technology and Society to Empower” is to enlighten a wider public about current advancements in technology, science and consequently in arts, that are not only some neutral tools, but actually co-create the new essence of a contemporary humanity. In our society, art, science and technology represent cohesive elements to the understanding of human genesis, as they have – in synthesis – established a new culture of our species. The perception of production in the field of contemporary visual, highly technologically-advanced artistic practices also includes socio-scientific researches concerning the situation in the field of existential issues of a human beings as community. The speed of the changes generated and imposed on us by technological development of digital and virtual components, inevitably affects also the socio-economic policies according to the principle of globalization. At the first glance, the chaotic development of the culture of consumerism and the new-media society seem unstoppable. To see, think, justify, and be informed, do not represent only the qualities of the physical relation to the world, but they reach into the field of psychological and metaphysical. Our aim is to make different generations familiar with contemporary issues and educate them about different and new possibilities of application of new media technologies to empower us all to contribute to the making of a better society that we all live in.

Let’s think and react!
