All these little things
Claudia Reh
“This light installation deals with the idea of the mosaic. There are already smaller mosaics on the building that is being used. The theme continues in the projection. How do many small particles become a big whole? The title is also a metaphor and reference to the idea: How important is each small element in its structure? How important is a single idea in a complex scientific system?
How important is an individual person in a society? And: What can emerge from new and randomly assembled particles? What role does coincidence play in a mosaic made up of many parts? During the festival, the existing mosaics will spread in a new form across the entire facade and temporarily suspend the architecture of the building. We will see how the questions mentioned can be answered.
Way of working:
I work analogously. The projection will be done with extremely high-levelt overhead projectors. Individual images and overlays are created by hand, and only assemble on site into a work that covers a building, a courtyard or a landscape like a second skin.
The visual language and aesthetics is different to the usual digital projection. The analog work makes the creation of the images transparent, the creative process becomes recognizable and understandable. New image layers and statements emerge from a collection of individual objects and patterns, various materials like sand and pre-made color elements, natural structures and small figurers or scissor cuts.
Some images are created by overlaying two projections.: while some parts of the projections are fixed, at the other projectors the moving part will realised by colored foils, waterbowls with pumps and swimming forms made from foils. Running or dropping water works live.
I am on site all time long to guard the different projectors and work on it and talk to the audience, if they have questions….”
