dr. Dan Podjed: Lecture (in Slovene)

Anthropologist Dr. Dan Podjed is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Slovenian Ethnology at the ZRC SAZU, an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, and a subject matter expert at the Innovation and Development Institute of the University of Ljubljana. He is the founder and executive advisor of the EASA Applied Anthropology Network and the initiator of the international symposium “Why the World Needs Anthropologists,” which has been held since 2013. The central areas of his research interest are isolation, crises, relationships between people and technologies, sustainable lifestyles, and understanding everyday life.

His latest book duo (a novel and a scientific treatise) with the common title Krizolacija (Crisolation), in which he describes an isolated person spending time in front of screens and within four walls during an endless crisis, has resonated in both the academic community and the wider public. The Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency has twice declared his works as exceptional scientific achievements, in 2011 and 2021. Podjed’s statement that you don’t find happiness within yourself, but beside yourself, was also notable and was declared “Bob of the Year 2022” by the newspaper Večer. He also received the honorary title of “Communicator of Science of the Year 2024,” awarded by the Slovenian Science Foundation.
