Reimagining Trbovlje’s Power Station

Workshop

On 18 September 2025, during the Speculum Artium Festival, the Youth Center Trbovlje will host a unique creative workshop dedicated to exploring and reimagining one of the town’s most iconic landmarks — the Trbovlje Power Station, home to The Chimney, the tallest in Europe.

Organised by Delavski dom Trbovlje, The Collective Foundation and Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) as part of the Danube Dance Alliance project, this 2–2.5 hour session will invite up to 20 participants to engage in an imaginative process connecting local heritage with visions for the future. The ideas and perspectives generated will contribute directly to a placemaking strategy and serve as inspiration for a major contemporary dance production in 2026, to be staged at The Chimney itself.

Part of the Danube Dance Alliance, this workshop supports a broader vision to elevate contemporary dance in the Danube region through cross-sector collaboration and innovation. By engaging local communities in five cities—including Trbovlje—this initiative merges contemporary dance with disciplines such as theatre, urban design, architecture, and new technologies. The resulting modular performances will tour both live and as immersive VR experiences across the region, rooted deeply in local stories and spaces.
